What is AIS?
-
Regulation mandated by the Board of Regents requiring school
districts to provide academic intervention services to students
who score below the State designated performance level on State
assessments and/or who are at risk of not achieving the State
learning standards in English language arts and mathematics in
grades K-12 and social studies and science in grades 4-12.

Services include: additional instruction that supplements the
general curriculum and/or student support services needed to
address barriers to improved academic performance.
Who is Eligible?
Students eligible for AIS, including those with disabilities and/or
limited English proficiency, are:

Those who score below the designated performance levels on
elementary, intermediate, and commencement-level State assessments
in English language arts, mathematics, social studies, and
science;

Those at risk of not meeting State standards as indicated through
the District-adopted or District-approved procedure, including
those K-3 students who lack reading readiness.
What
is the criteria for the District?

Students in grades 4 – 8 who score below designated performance
level on SED ELA, math, science, social studies tests.

Students in grades 9 – 12 who score below approved passing grade
on any RCT and/or Regents exam required for graduation in ELA,
math, science, social studies.

Students in grades where no SED test is given and score below
multiple, District-developed measures, are absent for a State
assessment, or are new entrants.

In-school remedial support by classroom teacher, reading teacher,
or learning specialist

Computer Assisted Instruction

Learning Center
-
Early Bird
-
After-school and/or Saturday and/or holiday remedial support

Summer ELA Learning Institute

Summer Math Learning Institute
